I wrote an essay going more in depth on this subject (https://dfreality.substack.com/p/kingdom-come), but I did want to address your last remarks there, it is a common objection against the amil/postmil view.
In much the same way that David was the rightful ruler of Israel while still under persecution by Saul, Christ and the victorious saints are the rightful and reigning rulers of this world. Despite being on the run, David was a king and had a kingdom, admittedly a smaller one than Saul’s and not outwardly discernible. We think of nations, lands, and all the trappings of worldly kingdoms when we consider the Kingdom of God (and surely, in the New Heavens & Earth it one day will be); yet a kingdom is first and foremost a people. During His ministry, Christ specifically states that His Kingdom does not come with observation, that it is within or amongst us; and Paul states that it is not meat and drink (i.e. physical things) but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Christ, as seen in His prefiguration through King David, is the rightful and reigning ruler of this world. Yet, as the Messianic Psalms and prophecies reveal, it is a kingdom under siege with a world still at war with its creator. We know which King will reign victorious though:
“And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.”
