So much for no new wars.

I suppose if we redefine, in true Orwellian style, regime change, drone strikes, and extrajudicial executions as “not war,” then the promise holds. Washington has parked warships and spy planes off Venezuela, vaporizing dinghies so pitiful they couldn’t reach Puerto Rico, let alone the mainland. In tandem with this escalation, Marco Rubio parrots that Maduro is a “fugitive from American justice.” While Netanyahu vows to “finish the job” in Gaza before a half-empty UN chamber, we see the same playbook repeated: enemies branded “terrorists,” civilian lives written off, and war crimes baptized as “counterterrorism.”

The greatest narco-cartel on Earth is not located in Caracas but in Langley, which ran coke with Medellín, guns with the Contras, and opium with Afghan warlords. To hear Trump speak of unleashing “the supreme power of the United States military” on Venezuelan fishermen’s skiffs is to glimpse the absurd theater of empire — an empire whose real exports are drugs, propaganda, and war.
