The Charlie Kirk story has understandably dominated headlines heading into the weekend, sucking the air out of nearly everything else. But as significant as his death is, this saturation coverage has obscured stories far grimmer in their implications: chief amongst them is Israel’s full-scale assault on Gaza City. Over a million civilians, already starved into famine, are being ordered to evacuate with nowhere to go. The imagery coming out of Gaza is evocative of the brutal deportations of the Armenians over a century ago, their displacement simply a euphemism for their brutal slaughter at the hands of the Turks.
Meanwhile, in the shadows of Kirk’s martyrdom, another scandal unraveled this week. Donald Trump’s carefully curated fictions about Jeffrey Epstein finally met the hard wall of reality with the release of Epstein’s birthday book and a trove of his personal emails. The grotesque tome contained not just names, letters, and raunchy well wishes, but sickening cartoons literally depicting Epstein grooming little girls — indisputable proof of the predator’s depravity and the elite circle that indulged him. Ghislaine Maxwell, whose recent deposition had absurdly been lauded as somehow exonerating Trump, stands revealed once more as a perjurer (something obvious to any mind not clouded by wishful thinking.) MAGA apologists have long waved away the Epstein connections as fabrications or, more recently, partisan slander.
That lie has become entirely untenable.
