Netanyahu now openly styles himself as Messianic figure, declaring this week that his “historic and spiritual mission” was bound up with the vision of Greater Israel. One does not have to squint hard to see his theology at work: what his father’s generation founded, his own must sanctify through perpetual war. That vision is closer than ever to becoming reality: the IDF’s Chief of Staff approved plans for the conquest of Gaza while simultaneously boasting of campaigns in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and the West Bank. Far less theatrical but no less dangerous was the week’s news that Israel’s largest private funder now controls one of America’s largest newsrooms. One of the largest media conglomerates in America — one that entertains, informs, and anesthetizes the masses, will soon do so with its strings pulled by men who’s editorial decisions already demonstrate a distinctly pro-Israeli bias. Whether on the supposed Right, or the ostensible Left, there is seemingly one position within mainstream media that we are not allowed to disagree upon.

The story that truly deserves mourning, and not just analysis, is the one you will likely not see on the evening broadcasts: over 7,000 Christians have been slaughtered in Nigeria this year alone, with an even greater amount abducted and sure to suffer a similar fate. While estimates vary across the organizations monitoring the situation, Nigeria has led the world in Christian killings in recent years. The U.S. has provided billions in assistance to Nigeria (~$7.8B in 2015–2024) and maintains active cooperation with the Nigerian military. Yet, despite all of this, Washington has not redesignated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” since removing it in 2021. Despite the immense sway that America holds, despite the billions of dollars in military and economic aid provided over the last two decades, nary a finger has been lifted by the State Department to address this humanitarian crisis. As of the writing of this article, the death toll in Nigeria roughly equates to one Nigerian Christian killed every hour — an unrelenting persecution that receives less outrage in America than an ad campaign about jeans.

Truly, comfort has defeated us.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the stories shaping the week that was…
