While it’s good to be back from a much-needed July 4th hiatus, stepping away from the news cycle for a few days only makes it more glaring how predictable so many of these stories are.
Trump's latest immigration rug pull is just the newest chapter in a decades-old Republican saga. For those who happened to have been born yesterday, GOP presidential candidates always talk tough on illegal immigration, promising strict enforcement, robust border security, and mass deportations. Yet time and again, these promises dissolve into token appeasements followed swiftly by another round of migration. Reagan did it in '86, Bush pushed guest-worker visas as a route to amnesty, and now Trump — after years of rhetoric about walls and removals — is signaling the same bait-and-switch. It's a pattern so predictable you'd think voters would stop falling for it, but alas, some people like being lied to it seems. It’s the same trick he ran in 2017, 2018, and 2019 — each time louder, each time more hollow. The wall became a fence, the deportations became catch-and-release, and now the final stage: inviting the invaders to stay, work, and vote Republican.
That brings us to the other about face done by the Trump regime this week. Despite figures like Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Dan Bongino loudly promising to release explosive evidence — including the full Epstein client list — this week we learned definitively that no such release is coming. The official line now is that there "is no list," there were no clients, and Epstein definitely killed himself (trust us). This, after years and months of carefully staged hype and bold assurances of transparency! I've covered this saga for years; we already knew the "black book" they offered up earlier this year was stale news, so I’m not at all shocked that Epstein’s long time pal and business associate continues to run cover for him. Coupled with the clearly doctored footage falsely sold to the public as “raw and unedited” footage, the entire spectacle isn't meant to simply be disappointing — it's a deliberate insult. I'll have much more to say on this travesty next week.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the stories shaping the week that was…
