Thank you. Ive been very thoroughly enjoying reading the LXX along with the 1611 and noticing all the subtle differences. Mostly im realizing, at least within the psalms, that most of God’s promises are past tense in the LXX and pre tense in the MT. Provides a much deeper and meaningful study experience than just using the MT.
Have you by chance, read any of the work by Dr. Gail Riplinger? She has large volumes of books, videos, pamphlets, lectures, etc., that go into great detail about this subject. She also readily responds to critics of her work with more detail, much of which is not refuted. I would about bet that you could actually have a conversation with her if you requested an interview. This is her website which contains lots of free stuff as well. All very interesting.
I am, though it's been some years since I engaged with her material. I was once sympathetic to the position, but ultimately the NT witness was impossible for me to reconcile with an alleged corruption/fabrication of the Septuagint, as proffered by Dr. Riplinger and others.
Since my below comment, I have found out more about Gail Riplinger, and was shocked again, about her character, background, and reasons for writing. Shocked at how deep cunning deceptions can go. I appreciate your view and agree with it now. "To deceive, if possible, even the elect." Whoa! So I did not read the 2nd half of that book. I also apologized to someone else that I had recommended it to.
Scipio this great work brother. If I wasn't so busy researching and studying other things currently I'd love to dive deeper into this subject. This is like Bible study for those that need more meat instead of milk! For now I'm gonna digest what you have laid out in this article and the next ones. Then later on I'll come back to it. I see this being a really important topic with the rise of A.I. info overload.
I do want to get a version that comes from the LXX. I saw your comment on your recommendation, thanks for that.
This is important information. I am looking forward to the next article. On YouTube there is a site benbornagain that mirrors your articles topic. Thank you for your research.
Hi, thank you for a deep and insightful article.....if one were to seek out a bible version or versions to purchase, which one(s) would one need to buy? Which print edition of the Dead Sea Scrolls? or do we go with an Ethiopian bible? Also, which books other than those mentioned above would we also need to get, a full understanding of the culture at that time? all advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you and good questions. As far as English translations go, the only one that has an OT based off the LXX at this time is the Orthodox Study Bible. I use it, the 1611, and Brenton's English Septuagint. I still highly respect the KJV, it's NT manuscript (the Textus Receptus) is what the OSB uses. Lexham's LXX is good as well if you prefer a more modern English, Brenton's is somewhat archaic as it is modeled after the KJV.
As far as gaining a deeper insight into the cultural milieu of the early Church, Dr. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm, Fr. Stephen De Young's The Religion of the Apostles, and Michael F. Bird's Jesus Among the Gods are great places to start. The testimony of the Fathers is invaluable as well, The Early Christian Fathers by Cyril C. Richardson is a good collection and quick read.
Thank you so much for the reply...very helpful and perplexing as to which way to go.....what is your understanding of why the church was renamed from "The Way" to Christianity? is this a misunderstanding? if the question is right, can you illuminate as to the reeason why, what practises where lost?
Thank you so much, as it's just what I've been questioning and asking the Lord for truth about. And benbornagain.faith about our King James OT being of the Masoretic Text--I'm still trying to find if that's true. Until a few years ago, I didn't even know what LXX was--had never heard of it. I shared one of Ben born again's videos about Kaballah and tetragrammaton in an article and then they took it down from his site. And the LXX versus other translations.
I tried watching some of his videos in the past but found them to be a bit manic in presentation. I'm not sure if his editing style has remained the same.
Thank you, as I have been wondering also about BenBornagain, because I think he is against the King James, and also about his logo, which the Assembly of God church here changed the old sign into (that Logo) when he was definitely new age, a church I left years ago due to teaching from New Age books. If so, I will remove what I posted awhile back. Still checking into....

Thank you very much, I found F.F. Bruce’s text the most accessible and forthright with the sources when you want to start researching the subject.
And indeed it’s an important topic, one with weighty implications.

Christians adopted the terminology pretty early on, see Acts 11:26.
